Confirm electric service rather than a familiar company name
Use the electric utility on an existing bill. A company providing gas to the property is not by itself evidence of which utility handles the proposed electric connection. If there is no meter, include the location and note that service is unknown.
Ask whether the battery would be associated with a building’s account or use a separate grid connection. Mention existing solar or other equipment and any tenant who controls the service. A design using someone else’s account needs that arrangement explained.

The resource list helps separate different questions
RG&E’s DG page links to a hosting-capacity portal covering PV, BESS and electrification, a project queue, upgrade disclosures and capital-upgrade resources. It provides a dedicated contact for storage connections and rates.
Those resources are not interchangeable. Ask what the developer learned from each and what remains to be confirmed for the actual design. If it only looked at the queue or map, have that described as early research rather than a finished engineering or cost review.

A queued project is not capacity assigned to you
If someone points to another battery application near your land, request the project reference and explain what connection it concerns. Nearby projects can be useful context, but their studies, rights and costs belong to their own proposals.
Ask for your project’s application stage and connection point. Do not assume the closest visible substation is the intended point. If several alternatives are being considered, find out when the choice is expected and whether it changes the land area or route requested from you.
Want to ask about your land?
Send the location and what you know. You don’t need a project plan.
Tell us about your landAsk what shared upgrades would mean for this offer
A discussion may include utility work that also benefits other projects. Ask whether a quoted cost is a preliminary estimate, a project-specific assessment or an amount dependent on other participants. Identify who pays and which conditions could change the number.
If the developer expects another project or upgrade to move ahead first, ask what evidence supports the schedule. Your land reservation should explain what happens if that dependency is delayed or does not occur. A shared-upgrade label does not itself make a cost or completion date certain.
| Item | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Connection point | Chosen location or alternative under review? |
| Upgrade cost | Estimate, assessment or conditional share? |
| Dependency | What other work must happen first? |
| Land reservation | Payment and release terms if work is delayed? |
Keep billing discussions separate from land rent
The utility resource page also covers generation billing and metering. Ask which storage rate or compensation arrangement applies to the proposal. Do not infer battery revenue from a solar billing example or treat an electric-account credit as your land payment.
Your agreement should explain the compensation you receive, the land covered and the payment triggers. Review the option period, extensions, damage, restoration and removal duties together. If project ownership may change, identify how your obligations and payments would be handled.
Start with the information you already have
Send Sunland the location and contact details. Include the present use, approximate available area, electric utility and any received proposal if known. Mention a queue reference or upgrade discussion without guessing at its conclusions.
You do not need to calculate capacity or choose a tariff before asking about the land. Further work must establish the actual connection, layout, approvals and commercial fit. An inquiry does not create an application or reserve electrical capacity.
Questions landowners ask
Does another queued battery qualify my parcel?
No. It concerns another proposal; your connection and land need their own review.
Does RG&E gas service establish electric service for a battery?
No. Confirm the electric utility and actual proposed connection.
Are utility billing credits the same as land rent?
No. Your land compensation is governed by the land agreement, separate from project billing.
